GuideStar Membership Wants YOU!

The following is a post from Lauren Walinsky, Membership Director, GuideStar. You can email Lauren directly at lwalinsky@guidestar.org.

Today we announced a newly expanded Membership Program designed specifically for those who are actively involved in the philanthropic sector and are committed to making a difference in a wide range of worthy causes. Sound familiar? Join us!

For many years, leading corporate and foundation grantmakers have given life to GuideStar’s important work on behalf of the nation’s nonprofits through the GuideStar Membership Program—and thanks to their support, 99 percent of our visitors use GuideStar for free. Now others can be part of this important work.

All Americans—and millions of people around the world—are touched by a nonprofit. Our children attend nonprofit schools. Our loved ones receive care in nonprofit hospitals. Our air, water, and lands are protected by nonprofits. Millions of people support charities with gifts of time, energy, and money. This is why, as part of our public service, GuideStar gives nonprofits a platform to reach out to millions of new donors and funders.

We also distribute nonprofit information to five donor advised funds, seven giving portals and more than 15 other sites. We estimate that through our services last year, donors contributed more than $2 billion to nonprofit organizations.

Millions of people are investing billions of dollars in the nation’s nonprofits by accessing our information free of charge.

People depend on GuideStar. And we depend on them.

Top five reasons to become a GuideStar Member:

  • Make it possible for nonprofits to reach new funders
  • Provide free nonprofit information to millions of potential donors
  • Help drive support for higher-performing nonprofits
  • Join a committed community of philanthropists – view a complete list of our members
  • Collaborate with key influencers in the nonprofit sector

To show our appreciation, we’re offering our Founding Members elite privileges, such as access to thousands of experts who can guide donation decisions, the ability to sponsor a favorite charity’s nonprofit report page, and insider information on GuideStar’s services and strategy. Working together, we can truly make a difference.

Will this expanded membership include Friends of Accotink Creek, an all-volunteer led organization associated with http://www.nvatu.org, a non-profit 501(C)3? Friends of Accotink Creek is dedicated to restoring an urban watershed to a more pristine state for safe fishing and wading near the Washington, DC beltway. Many students benefit from community service hours.

Thanks for your comment, Mr. Murphy. GuideStar Membership is not directly responsible for listing nonprofits on the GuideStar website (though you can see NVATU’s listing on GuideStar here: http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/52-1269876/trout-unlimited-northern-virginia-chapter.aspx). By joining as a foundation, individual, or nonprofit member, you are displaying a philanthropic commitment to supporting GuideStar and its free services. Please feel free to contact us separately with any questions about Membership at funding@guidestar.org. If you would like more information about having an organization listed on GuideStar or participating in the GuideStar Exchange Program, please visit this page: http://www2.guidestar.org/rxg/update-nonprofit-report/about-the-guidestar-exchange.aspx.
