Foundation Spotlight: Newman’s Own Foundation

Thirty-five years ago, just a year after he started making and bottling salad dressing for friends, Paul Newman launched Newman’s Own, the company based around his homemade recipe with the goal of giving all the profits to charity. That first year turned out to be more profitable than Paul could have imagined—the company made over $300,000 and Paul achieved his vision of “giving it all away,” funding 30 charitable organizations in year one. Now the company has more than 300 products, supporting about 600 grantees each year, with 100% of the profits helping charities around the world. An incredible feat, to create a business model like that and have it not only be sustainable, but thriving over three decades later.
