GuideStar's mission is "to revolutionize philanthropy and nonprofit practice by providing information that advances transparency, enables users to make better decisions, and encourages charitable giving." We strive to achieve it in several ways: by making nonprofit information available at no charge to millions of people each year, both on our site and on our partners' sites; by providing more in-depth data and tools to professional users; by giving nonprofits a platform, at no cost to them, to tell their stories and work more efficiently; by giving donors the ability to donate to charities directly from our site; by partnering with GreatNonprofits to let the public measure what really matters about a nonprofit—how well it accomplishes it mission; and by educating people about the sector and the organizations that make it up.
This year, we expanded our educational efforts by offering several webinars each month. So far this year, more than 3,900 people have attended 17 webinars presented by GuideStar staff and outside experts such as Terry Axelrod (Benevon), Karl Emerson (Montgomery McCraken), Michael Gilbert (Gilbert Center), Jacob Harold (William and Flora Hewlett Foundation), and Perla Ni (GreatNonprofits). The topics have ranged from defining success in social change to best practices in nonprofit compensation to the right GuideStar tools for the job.
We have more webinars planned for this year; you can see the schedule on our site. If you'd like to be notified about upcoming webinars, you can add your name to the webinar mailing list. And if you're interested in our previous webinars, you can find recordings of and presentations from them in our webinar archive.
We're setting up our 2010 webinar schedule right now. If you have suggestions for webinars you'd like us to offer, please send them to us at email@example.com. We're looking forward to helping our many audiences meet their needs and expanding knowledge of the sector through our 2010 webinar series.
