Nonprofits Post Volunteer Opportunities at GuideStar

Nonprofit organizations are taking advantage of the opportunity to post ads for volunteers at GuideStar. Any charity that participates in GuideStar can advertise volunteer opportunities for free at The ads appear on the Needs and Opportunities page of the organization's GuideStar Report and in the Classifieds section of the GuideStar Web site.

Organizations can also post ads for in-kind gifts, financial contributions, staff, and Web development volunteers.

Nonprofits report excellent reponses to their ads. Steven Cleaver, executive director of Horizons for Youth in Sharon, Massachusetts, wrote GuideStar:

I wanted to thank your group for your help. I requested volunteer help with our website—the request went in about two weeks ago. Since then I have received at least 6 volunteer requests I was pretty surprised at the results.

To post an ad, participating nonprofits need only log in to the For Nonprofits section, select Post/Edit Classified Ads, and complete the on-line form. Organizations can post as many ads as they wish.

Nonprofit organizations that wish to participate in GuideStar need only register and complete GuideStar's on-line information form. Registration and participation are free and available to any nonprofit classified as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Tax Code.
