The Top Five Things You Need to Know for the 2018 Giving Season

The Top Five Things You Need to Know for the 2018 Giving SeasonI’m sure you have a long to-do list to prep for the Giving Season, but do you know how you can reach millions of donors and funders with just a bit of your time? The answer is simple—by updating your existing GuideStar Nonprofit Profile!

Your nonprofit’s information goes out to more than 200 charitable websites and applications powered by GuideStar, including AmazonSmile, Facebook, Network for Good, and Charity Navigator. To make the most out of your Giving Season, here are the top five things you need to know:

1. Update your profile before Sunday, November 11

November 11 is the last day to make changes to your profile before we send your information to the aforementioned 200+ partner websites and applications.

Click here to begin adding key information, such as contact information, payment addresses, programmatic details, year-over-year results, and more, to your profile so donations can be routed correctly, quickly, and efficiently to your organization.

2. Information for 2018 Gold and 2018 Platinum Seal holders will be displayed on Charity Navigator

Whether your nonprofit is rated by Charity Navigator or not, your long-term goals & strategies or recent Platinum metrics will show up for any organization that has earned the 2018 Gold or 2018 Platinum Seal of Transparency before November 11. Heres a look at the required fields for earning each Seal.

3. Add a Donate Button to your profile before #GivingTuesday

At GuideStar, we see a large spike in traffic on #GivingTuesday and throughout the Giving Season, which proves that donors want to do their research before giving. Make it easy for them to give to your organization by adding a Donate Button to your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile. The only requirement is to earn a Bronze Seal of Transparency, which should take you about 15 minutes. Here’s the information you need to have handy:

  • Organization address, contact name, and e-mail
  • Mission statement
  • Name of organization leader and board chair
  • Program names, descriptions, and population served
  • Geographic area served by program
  • NTEE codes and keywords
  • Payment address

See the full list of fields (required and optional) for a Bronze Seal.

4. We’re here to help!

If you have questions, you can attend our FREE webinar, “Prep Your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile for #GivingTuesday,” on Thursday, November 1. We will cover how you can use your Nonprofit Profile to stand out on #GivingTuesday. Come prepared with questions—we’ll be answering them live! Register now.

5. Include GuideStar and our 200+ partners in your fundraising campaigns

Once your nonprofit’s information is up to date AND appearing on our 200+ partner sites, you can start fundraising on GuideStar and all of those partner sites. May this be your best Giving Season yet!
