Three Ideas to Get You Started on Donor Stewardship (Plus 20 More You Can Download)

happy-donor.jpegThe top complaint of every donor is not knowing that his or her gift made a difference.

You may have some ambitious ideas of how you’ll love on your most generous donors but let’s get real. Does it really happen? Do you actually have business rules to acknowledge and steward your donors?

You do now ...

Happy holidays! I’ve got more than 20 killer ideas to help you retain and upgrade your donors in a handy template you can download here. Put these stewardship strategies in your back pocket and make this year-end your best year ever. Want a few BONUS ideas to get you started?

  1. Celebrate the anniversary of your donor’s first gift, a “Donorversary.”
Whether your donor has been giving to you for 1 month or 10 years, reminding them can make them feel like a complete rock star for what they already accomplished in in such a short time. I.e., “It’s only been 3 months and already your gift has ...” or the big milestone their longtime loyalty made happen. Remember, your donor may not remember how long they’ve been giving to you. Reminding them reinforces what a valuable part of the family they are!
  2. Follow a solid, actionable plan to acknowledge, thank, and welcome new donors properly.
Don’t have a solid, actionable plan? You need one to convert these people to your cause. Don’t worry, I got your back! Download your sample stewardship plan now.
  3. Try these killer digital tools to make it super easy!
The only thing better than great stewardship is simple tools to make it easy. Here're a few of my favorites:

Who has an iPhone or iPad? Everyone just raised their hand. Go to the app store and download this gem. Easy, affordable digital stewardship made easy. These are handwritten cards you sign from your iPhone. Then BOOM! a few days later your donor gets a handwritten, stamped envelope with a card inside form yours truly! Pick a design, use a photo from your iPhone camera roll, or have them make you your own custom stationary!
Ready to stand out in your donor's inbox? Video email is here! This hand tool, which plugs into your compter’s webcam, is the perfect answer to getting through the clutter in your donor's inbox. Stand out with a warm, uber-personalized thank-you. Best part? You can set your message to send you an email when your donor opens it.
