Giving Tuesday and the end-of-year giving season are fast approaching. Although traditional methods of giving still predominate, the number of people who give online is steadily increasing. How can you ensure that these tech-savvy donors get the right information about your organization, especially if they give through third parties such as Facebook, GuideStar, JustGive, Network for Good, community foundations, and the major donor-advised funds?
Easy: update your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile. More than 200 websites and applications—including the ones mentioned above—get their nonprofit information from GuideStar. When you update your GuideStar Profile, you also update your information on these other sites. Updating is free.
How much information you share is up to you, but you should look into earning a GuideStar Seal of Transparency. There are four levels—Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—each earned by providing certain information. Earning a Seal allows you to put a donation button on your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile. Last year, the number of nonprofits receiving a donation through the GuideStar website grew 200 percent. Organizations that had a Seal were more likely to receive contributions, and donations to nonprofits with Gold or Platinum Seal tended to be higher.
So give online donors the most up-to-date contact information, details about your mission and programs, basic financials, goals and strategies, year-over-year progress, and more. Update your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile today. Then earn a Seal of Transparency and add a donation button to your profile.
